At 12:50 this afternoon Berlin Police, Fire, and EMS agencies were dispatched to the Ragged Mountain Preserve for the report of a hiker on the trail system who felt faint and weak. An off-duty Berlin Police sergeant who happen to be biking in the area contacted the patient and was able to relay their location to the arriving responders. A fire department team hiking on foot located the hiking party and initiated care while a second team on an off-road vehicle was able to make it up to them and successfully transport the patient and one other uninjured hiker to the trailhead.

Rescue teams reported a tough time making entry, with frequent stops to cut trees in the trail as there has been quite a bit of dead wood and storm damage on the mountain.

The hiking party was located on the east side of the mountain on what is known at the “Loop”, around the equivalent to a 15-minute hike up a rocky trap rock trail that overlooks the Harts Ponds. The hiking party was transferred to an awaiting ambulance 45 minutes after teams made entry and was transported for further evaluation.
