This year at Berlin High School, there are 2 ways that students are learning about the Fire Service including the Town of Berlin Fire Departments, Introduction to Fire Safety and the Emergency Services Club.

The Introduction to Fire Safety is an elective class that meets during the school day, just like any core class. During class students will learn the basics of firefighter safety and operations. Attached is a photo of the class students standing along side of Truck 9 during a visit on 3/11/2022. (Photo from Berlin High School Facebook Page)

There is also an after school club, Emergency Services Club. In the club, students not only learns about the fire services, they also learn about other emergency services in our community including the Police Department and Ambulance Service. Attached are photos of the Emergency Services Club working with firefighters and Engine 2 learning about fire suppression operation and equipment during a visit on 3/15/2022. The Town of Berlin Fire Departments are 100% volunteer and always excepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter. Anyone can join beginning at 16 years old. Between the ages of 16 - 18 you will be considered a Cadet Firefighter. During this time you will begin training with the fire department in town and responding to emergency calls. Once a Cadet turns 18 years old, or someone joins over the age of 18, they are considered probationary firefighters until all their training is completed including certification of firefighter 1 though the Connecticut Fire Academy. Once completed they became an active firefighter. More information about joining the fire service in the Town of Berlin can be found on our website, https://www.berlinfd.com/content/join/
